Build a custom agent

Design an agent's objective, skills, and output from scratch.

Updated 2026-07-23

When no pre-built agent fits, design your own from the Build Agent window — you're in full control of what it knows, what it's allowed to do, and what it returns.

Set the basics

  1. From Add New Agent, select Build Agent.
  2. Under Name & Description, give it a name and a short description.
  3. Write its Objective — the goal and scope for its work — or select Use template for a starting point.

Add what it needs

  • Collaborators — add people who should receive updates, review outcomes, or approve its work.
  • Knowledge Sources — attach documents, notes, or links so its answers reflect your organisation.
  • Skills — select Add Skill, choose a connection type, then pick the specific actions it's allowed to use.
  • Output Fields — define the structured results you want it to return, each with a name and optional description.
TipAdd a skill's connection type before its actions — the action list only appears once you've chosen what to connect to.

Check connections and save

If any skill needs a connection, Connection Status shows each one as Matched or Needs valid connection. Every required connection must be matched before you can select Save Agent.

NoteYou can keep adjusting a custom agent after saving it — open it from Agents and edit any section on its Overview tab.

Common questions

Can I skip Output Fields?

Yes. Leave them out if you don't need the agent to return structured results — its written output still appears in the job it runs.

What happens if I add a skill I later remove?

Removing a skill only affects new runs. Anything the agent already did with it stays in the job history that produced it.
